Leader Requirements

We are committed to providing young people with leaders who are equipped to nurture them, teach them and look out for them. All leaders are required to:

• Believe that Jesus Christ is Lord and Saviour and believe the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments to be the Word of God.
• Regularly attend a parish of the Presbyterian Church of Victoria (PCV) and receive approval from their senior minister.
• Be 18 years of age or older, having completed a gap year between being a camper and serving as a leader (completion of the YouthMETRO program qualifies as a gap year).
• Agree to be bound by and work within the guidelines outlined by the PCV Safe Church Policy, PCV Code of Conduct, PCV Privacy Policy, PYC Leader’s Declaration of Commitment, and PYC Policies and Procedures.
• Have completed Safe Church Basic Training and submitted a Volunteer Approval Process (VAP) to the Safe Church Representative of their local church.
• Hold a valid Victorian Working with Children Check (WWCC).
• Demonstrate adequate preparation for leadership through either:
  • Completion of recognised theological or practical leadership training;
  • Proven experience in bible study leadership, wider church service, or Christian ministry leadership (if over 21 years old).

Recognised training may include, but is not limited to:

• YouthMETRO
• Engage Conference
• Leaders In Training (LiT)
• National Training Event (NTE)
• Certificate III in Christian Ministry and Theology
• Church-based mentorship programs

Leader Application

Fill in the Leader Application Form to outline your training and experience. After you have submitted this a member of the PYCC's Leadership Accreditation Committee (LAC) will get in contact with you to continue the process.

If you haven't already added the PCV to the list of organisations you volunteer with on your WWCC, add it. If you are applying to lead with PYV, add PYV to your WWCC. If you are applying to lead with PKV, add PKV to your WWCC.

Interested in serving but don't feel ready yet? In year 12 and thinking of leading with PYV/PKV after you graduate? Speak to your pastor to find out how you could be equipped to lead. You may want to consider a short traineeship like the YouthMETRO program: a one-year, part time, church-based traineeship that aims to equip trainees in being, thinking and serving like Jesus.
